What is a debit card?

A First State Bank Visa® debit card allows you to quickly access money in your First State Bank checking, savings, or money market account. Use your debit card instead of cash or checks for all your purchases, such as groceries, clothing, or recreation. You may also use your debit card to pay bills and make online or in-app purchases for almost anything. Have peace of mind knowing you are protected with Visa® Zero Fraud Liability Protection1 for unauthorized transactions.

You can visit a banking center and apply for a First State Bank Visa® debit card. Or, you may download an application and choose to either mail it to First State Bank, 206 N. Fifth Street, St. Charles, MO 63301, or fax it to 636-940-5566.

Lost or stolen card?

Please report a lost or stolen debit card to the bank as soon as possible. During normal business hours, call 636-940-5555.

Debit card fraud alerts

Debit card fraud alerts are an important way to keep you aware if any suspicious debit card transaction activity is occurring in your account. All debit card account holders are automatically enrolled.

Should suspicious activity be detected, we will send a message to your mobile number. Customers with landline phone numbers will receive a voice message alert. If you need to update your mobile or landline number, contact us at 636-940-5555.

Texts from this service will appear on your mobile device from 877-253-8962 and begin with, “FreeMSG 1st State Bk St Charles Fraud Center.” When you receive a text please confirm the transaction and reply with “yes.” If you did not authorize the transaction, reply with “no.”

Please note: First State Bank will never contact you via phone, text, or email to request any sensitive personal information such as your Digital Banking password or PIN.

Debit card frequently asked questions

What should I do if my debit card is lost or stolen?

Notify First State Bank immediately by calling our Customer Care team at 636-940-5555. They are available Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. CST. Your lost or stolen debit card will be suspended and a new issued one for a $6.00 fee. If you call after regular business hours, please contact our card hotline at 1-800-472-3272.

After reaching the hotline to cancel your current card, please contact the bank on the next regular business day to order a replacement card. For more detailed information, please refer to your Customer Agreement.

What should I do if I cannot remember my PIN or need to reset it?

Call 1-800-992-3808 to reset your pin number.

What should I do if my debit card's magnetic strip is damaged?

Call our Customer Care team at 636-940-5555 Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. CST for assistance or stop by any of First State Bank’s convenient locations during regular business hours. We will be more than happy to order you a replacement debit card for a $6.00 fee.

As a precaution, you should always store your debit card in your wallet or a protective case to protect the magnetic strip and keep it from being marred or damaged.

What can I do to reduce my risk of fraud?

You can reduce your risk of fraud by not giving out your card information and by regularly checking your account activity online. If you suspect fraudulent activity on your Visa debit card, please call our Customer Care team at 636-940-5555 Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. CST.

What should I do if I notice fraudulent activity on my account?

What should I do if I will be traveling outside of the country and want to use my Visa debit card?

If you have plans to travel outside of the country, please call our Customer Care team at 636-940-5555 Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. CST before your trip to ensure your Visa debit card will work properly during your travels.

What should I do when my current First State Bank debit card expires?

You will automatically receive a new debit card in the mail before the expiration date. Please activate the new card and verify that it functions properly, then destroy your expiring card.

What if I have a joint account? Can I have my own debit card?

Yes, as long as you and the other person complete the application process and are approved for debit cards. To begin the application process, call our Customer Care team at 636-940-5555. They are available Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. CST.
