First State Bank Salutes Community Hero Milton Sagez

Mr. Sagez’s son, Randy, joined him on his Honor Flight to Washington DC.

First State Bank is proud to recognize the many men and women who served our country, including long-time bank customer and Korean War veteran Milton Sagez. Mr. Sagez served in the Korean War for 21 months, beginning in February 1952. He was a supply sergeant for Battalion Headquarters in Korea as part of the U.S. Army.

On June 8, 2019, Mr. Sagez participated in a Greater St. Louis Honor Flight with his son, Randy. Mr. Sagez was very surprised to find his granddaughter, Mandi, and her husband, Eric, waiting for the group at Memorial Square in Washington DC.

“This was the trip of a lifetime for my father-in-law,” said Denise Sagez, a member of First State Bank Mortgage’s post-closing department. “In addition to seeing so many national memorials, the outpouring of appreciation for his service was incredible.”

Mr. Sagez was greeted by his daughter-in-law, Denise, and many other friends, family, and community members upon his return from his Honor Flight.

The group visited monuments established for each branch of service. They saw the WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Veterans memorials as well as the Lincoln and Washington monuments. They even witnessed the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Everywhere they went, civilians took time to thank and acknowledge them.

Upon arriving back at Lambert Airport late that evening, Mr. Sagez was greeted by service men and women, USO, Boy Scouts, and family members with a patriotic welcome home celebration and closing ceremony.

Like those at the ceremony, we are grateful for the sacrifice and service of Mr. Sagez, and the many other men and women who have served our country.
